A library is the heart and soul of an educational institution.  A college or a school is judged from its library.  Indeed, buildings alone do  not make a school.

A library is nothing but a collection of books magazines and paper.. Books contain know ledged and a library contains books.   A library is the temple of knowledge and a boon to the people.  It is the place where knowledge is preserved. Libraries have historically been called the “House of writing”, with the earliest library dating back to 3200BC while modern library has dated back to the mid-20th century. A library houses  information usually a collections of books, journals, manuscript, artifacts and more. To put it another way, it is “The Internet of old”, because a library was the only source of  recorded information and resource back then.

Libraries first emerged in schools as far back as the 13th century, the first being in the year 1250 in the University of Paris. Since then libraries have evolved from clay tablets to scrolls to books which shows how far man has continued to evolve in thinking and learning. With the increasing growth in technology playing a very important role in every aspect of our lives, libraries have not been left behind. A library forms a very important part of an educational institution.  A college library provides the students with means for utilizing leisurely hours.  A library widens the knowledge of the students with new ideas and new thoughts.

Every library has a reading room attached to it.  It subscribes to many dailies and magazines and journals.  Readers read papers which present varying points of view. The conventional Libraries are becoming obsolete, the internet provides answers available at the click of “Google Search”. #Google It While many still hold dearly the idea of a physical entity (paper) that presents a cultural feel, libraries have evolved to present the “best of both worlds”. Most libraries today now have both the conventional books and resource with a combination of tech, creating a platform for learning and information using technology. Hence, the Digital Library.

There are many uses of libraries.  A library spreads knowledge.  The poor people, particularly poor students who cannot afford to purchase books, can make the best use of a library. They can borrow books and gather knowledge.  Even rich men cannot have all the books and they also have to depend on the library. Libraries such as The Snell Library of Northeastern University (below) have a dedicated media laboratory and digital creativity center called the Digital Media Commons where Faculty, Staff and Students can engage in collaborative learning facilities such as; high-power computer workstations, 3D printers, professional-grade creation technology. All to improve learning and enable access to information.
