Who benefits?
All farmers including Bhagiya / Bhagidar and Ganot farmers who are growing crops in the designated area.
Mandatory component
All farmers who are getting loans for financial crops from financial institutions for seasonal farming operations (SAO) i.e. lending farmers are compulsorily covered.
Optional component
For those who have not taken a loan, this scheme is a must.
How much benefit
There are four types of insurance compensation for crops under this scheme.
Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme
1. Areas not planted due to low rainfall or adverse season will be covered.
2. Loss of standing crops (till sowing of crops) e.g. loss due to drought, scarcity, floods, locusts, natural fires, famines, hurricanes etc.
3. Loss after harvesting, this protection for a maximum of two weeks after harvest Is receivable. E.g. damage from hurricanes, unseasonal rains etc.
4. Local natural disasters which are the local hazards of certain areas e.g. Protection against damage caused by drought, famine, floods.
The scheme does not cover pure, nuclear risk and intentional damage). To implement this scheme, the state government has to approve and approve this scheme.
The premium for protection under insurance under this scheme will be as follows.
2% of sum assured for kharif season, 1.5% for rabi season (winter crop) and for annual crops (cash and horticulture). This insurance plan will suffice that season. Will have to reinsure premium for the new season in the new year.
